sand eels

has anyone got footage or general info on how to collect sand eels.saw a guy last week with what looked like a large bread knife makeing figures of eight in the sand while in about a foot of water.he did not have much luck,but he said it was how he did it all the time.thanks.

Sounds like a vingler, looks like a blunt knife with a hook on the end. I've never tried using one myself but the basic idea is that you trap sandeels in the hook of the vingler as you draw it through the sand. Alternatively you could try fast shallow digging with a fork and the help of a mate to catch them as they come out.
