wicklow shore mark, sun 13th april 08

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:myself, Neil (fishface) and john bunn.

Duration:7.15pm-11pm

Tide:dropping

Weather:calm,clear night

Bait:mostly rag with some mack

Rigs:flappers, pulleys

Results:dabs, plaice, tope, doggies and shore rockling.
Me, 1 dab, 3 doggies, 1 whiting.
All fish returned.

Report:Met the lads and they blindfolded me and whisked me off to their secret fishing mark (only joking but I had to swear an oath and promise not to reveal it  ). As I struggled to the beach mark from the car I thanked God I bought a backpack which leaves your hands free to carry rod, lamp etc. ( iT WOULD BE MORE OF A STRUGGLE LATER ON THE WAY BACK  :( ) It was more than worth it when we reached the mark, a small deserted beach which looked perfect for fishing. We set up and straight away the beginner (me) landed a nice dab, a personal best too   . Pressure was off now and I could relax and enjoy the fishing. I hit a massive cast (for me   ) of about 70 yds and was delighted with meself. Then Neil ( Fishface) started swinging the lead (pendulum) and it disappeared over the horizon, that put me back in my place  . John was next to catch with a plaice, which though small was the first i'd seen ( though i'd thought i'd caught one before, only to be corrected here   ). We all caught a couple of doggies after that but the real quarry was bass and they didnt show  . John caught a baby tope ,another first for me to see. Some others told us they had caught 1 bass earlier so they were around. wWe had a good night and will keep hitting the mark , who knows :?: , we might catch that bass the next time  .

Good fishing there.

Dont worry - if catching bass required a long cast I would definitely never catch any. Like yourself I am a novice at this fishing lark - just started fishing last June and only really did spinning off rock marks for the first five months. But my casting distances are generally still emabarrasingly short - apart from the occasional one that I seem to get right.
