Youghal, Co. Cork, 13th April 2008

People: Me

Duration: 2.15 - 5.45 pm

Tide: HW at 12.10 pm

Weather: Moderate to strong north wind, mostly dry, one heavy shower

Bait: peeler crab, lug worm

Rigs: 3/0 two hook flapper, size 1 three hook flapper, 4/0 single hook flapper

Results: 3 flounder, 1 coalfish

Report: The north wind as blowing again which did not bode well for beach fishing so I tried the pier in Youghal - the wind was not too strong when I got to the pier - although there was a ship tied up which restricted the area that could be fished.

I was not too sure how that mark would fish on a dropping tide but decided to give it a go anyway.

After about 30 minutes I got a flounder double on the three hook flapper baited with crab. Both were a reasonable size, 37 cm and 32 cm.

20-30 minutes later I caught the third flounder, again a good size at 35 cm. It was also taken on the three hook flapper with crab.

It got quite after that - the only other bite being a small 25 cm coalfish. on the same rig baited with crab.

But all in all a good weekend fishing (2 bass + 1 coalie on Friday night, 4 small flounder on Saturday night and now 3 good flounder + 1 coalie) - better than blanking last weekend :D :D .

Thanks guys,
It was great to get some good results at last - especially the two bass :D :D

The fishing on the south coast seems to have been fairly poor over the last month or so (at least for me and anybody that I have spoken to). People kept telling me that April would be better - looks like they were right.
