not to take away from the points here - but on the radio yesterday they were interviewing members from a club with 300 members in west dublin - where they believe the fishing is crucial to keeping the kids out of mischief
good for the economy and good socially this angling lark :)

i think it was on pat kenny yesterday
apparently they want to run through a load of pipes through the area with the river
many people were interviewed about the pros and cons - think it was near blanchardstown - the fastest urbanising area of europe or something to that effect???
reckon a few years off the fishing and the boys would be robbing and engaged in public order offences
i think its one of the few remaining green spaces etc. in the area

excellent
This is an excellent article.
It's the type of thing that needs to be highlighted.
Some good feedback posts too!

'Fishing may be known as the art of drowning worms' funny line
Dont forget though, look at the vast, vast, vast huge amount of young kids playing football, basketball, hurley, rugby, cricket etc etc similair to schemes like this the world over, and there are still millions of under-privliged kids running around, doing what they do (not having a pop at the kids here btw, nor am I sticking up for them)..
It may REDUCE the problem ever so slightly but it wont STOP it, I truly dont think that anything ever will, which is sad really. But in saying that, its good too see more youngsters (I'm 20ish and it makes me feel older than the hills saying youngsters lol) and more people in general getting into the sport, and also a bit of well deserved recognition for the humble art of fishing. The sport is under-rated to the hilt I reckon, a lot of cats out there dont know what they're mssing :D
'by not being associated "with any particular flags or emblems, angling has strong levels of participation across the political divide".
^^ One of the good things about fishing if you ask me.
