mackerel in Mayo

#4 Post by kieran »

A mate had one on mackerel strip on Keem Bay in February.

Not that unusual, you get them in the margin on the RHS all through the winter. Have no heard of one since... most books and references given 7 C as the lowest temperature to find them in and the water temperature has barely seen 8 C this winter... usually warmer in sheltered bays.

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

I was going to wait until the time I did it last year (mid April), but I'll take the cue to get it going again in Shore Reports with pleasure, and roll on the summer!
