More species identification.....

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

Hi all,

Had a session down on Wicklow pier last night, fished at low tide. Pretty slow but got a few doggies and a strange looking sandeel type thing. It had a long snout-like mouth though, not like the usual mouth of a sandeel about 12" in length (the fish, not the mouth), greater sandeel perhaps?!

My mate had a small fish that looked similar to a rockling I think, but it didnt have the "beards".

I know some of you old-heads are bound to be able to help me out here.....

 Ah, almost forgot to tell you all, my mate dug his rod out of the shed in the dark last night, you can imagine his shock when he realised he brought the wrong top section and therefore had to fish the session with just his reel and the butt section.... What a sight seeing him trying to cast    I'm just dissappointed I forgot to take a photo of him

PS : How do I attach more than one photo to a thread?

Thanks all

the pic looks like a shore rockling and the other was a launce or greater sandeel ,when you attach the first pic a new box appears for your second pic then your third (only three with each post)

the colour looks like a 5 bearded rockling , 4 on the snout and 1 on the chin ,not always easy to spot the 4 on the nose
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.
