instead of gutting and then freezing them, get a good few
baiting needles, or something similar, thread the lug two or three, onto
each baiting needle, then freeze lug, bait needles and all, when you want
to use for fishing, transfer them to bait-type cool-box, dont let them
thaw out, thread the worms onto the hook frozen, they thaw out in
seconds in sea- water. really works a treat fishing them this way,
saves a good few quid, having to buy them, only freeze the lug once
anymore they turn to mush.

If you want to keep them a bit longer then gut and salt them, then after salting wrap in paper and put in freezer until you use them.
I tend to salt mine right down to leathery then they rehydrate well on the hook. I also leave mine out for a few days in the sun in a plastic carton to get smelly and sticky and then salt and freeze them. Good bait for flatfish. Also a good allround tipping bait.
