#1 Post by Donagh »

Anyone interested in a forum meet fishing the Shannon estuary over December. If so let me know when would suit best and if theres a preference for north or south bank.

I would be interested and open to sugestions on when or where. Clare side seems to be fishing best at the moment though.

Clare side it is so. I normally only fish that side in competition and never in winter. If anyone has any suggestions on a venue that will allow a number of anglers fish in comfort with a bit of action let me know.

Hi Donagh,

I'm planning a trip down to the bro. in laws place in Sixmilebridge at some stage in Dec and would love to come along too.

I've never fished the Shannon so would be entirely reliant on you for venue etc.

Let me know when you are planning to meet up and hopefully I'll be free that w/e.

Cheers,

Donal.

BEACH OR ROCKY SHORELINE

#7 Post by neilusg »

There are some good beaches and good rocky shorelines on the clare side but I would make a gamble on a beach.

I've been in contact with Neilus and I've put down Carrigaholt Beach on the 12th of december for the forum meet. Fishing to start around 4Pm with a spring high tide at around 6pm. Fishing around high tide and into darkness should mean that distance casting isn't important. Ray should be available as this is a known wintering spot. Dogs and flounder should keep us ammused if the ray don't turn up.

Let me know if you can make it and I'll then pass on my mobile number through PM if you are coming. BTW the best bait will be fish baits (sandeel & Mackerel) and I'll fish with a pulley with 3/0 pennel for ray and a 2 or 3 hook clipped down rig for dogs, flounder and whiting. I might go down to size 1 hooks for whiting.

The forum meet is as follows at the moment:

Definate:
Donagh
Neilus
Sean365

Unsure yet:
Dave_b
Jakes and friends

The beach is just to the left before you get into the village and we'll be fishing onto sand which is covered by the high tide from a shingle bank against the sea wall. Though with the spring tide we may be pushed off the beach and end up fishing from the sea wall. Waders won't give any distance unless you come earlier or stay later for the lower tides.
