Galway bay mystery?
Two summers ago we were fishing in galway bay for tope and anything that would take our bait. Wasnt too experienced with the sea fishing a that stage. My brother hooked into something massive that had a 30-50lb class rod doubled over my dad had to hold onto him as he nearly got pulled in even with the "thing" going mental taking line. We were using about 4ft of wire trace and a 4/0 hook with a mackeral flapper connected to 30lb mainline after a couple of mins running it all went slack he wound it back in and the mainline was all rubbed and rough. Was it a big tope a seal or something else??????? It was a pretty featureless bottom just bare rock and sand. We didnt get anything after that.

The area between Cloughmore point & Castle point can be productive for many species. What exactly i will keep:lol: , but Skate (excluding thornbacks) is one thing i have never heard of been caught in this general area. I have even spoken to some decommissioned skippers and they agree. The area is featureless, only hard sand.
Next time your down try the following mark, can be productive, sometimes a hit and miss. ( 53 12' 8" N, 9 32' W or 53 12' 8" N, 9 28' 6" W).
Tuna have been caught, methods some legal some not! General area, west of golam point and rock island.
PM if you need any further info.
