Whats my distance??

#1 Post by Kraken »

Went up to the coaldocks in Youghal to do a bit of short distance practice casting (dont know about ye but I have trouble casting short :D )

After a while I got bored and decided to start hitting it a bit.

I was using my primo synchro, an abu sports mag , 15Lb suffix tritanium, 5oz lead and mags set to zero.

This is what I started with (apologies for pic quality - mobile is crap)

and this is what I ended up with

Now I know the reel wasnt full to the top or near it but it was fairly close
- anyone care to take a stab at what kinda distance it was?? I would seriously love to have it measured.
I'm even thinking of taking all the line off the reel just to measure it

Anyway... I'm well pleased with it and have repeated it a number of times since so I know it wasnt a fluke :D

cheers,
john.

go to your nearest playing fields and walk it off should give you a very good idea
and just to be on the safe side reduce it by about 10% just for line stretch

Yip just pace it out John, lay the lead on the beach and walk backwards until the reel is empty, you'll get a fairly good idea. Looks good anyway.

Is that a 5500 sports Mag. Hard to tell from the pictures.

If it's a 5500 with 0.35 line, I'd be guessing about 150 - 170 yards. If it is a 6500.... 170 - 190. Like the lads mentioned, pace it out in the field and you'll get a decent idea.

Long drop-slow swing - looking up - listening to that sweet sound of the reel screaming at me - not havin a clue where the lead landed

Sounds good John,
are you coming up to the Fishing Expo this weekend? The casting lads will sort that 200 for ya, If ur driving up throw in the rod!
What you'll learn in 5 minutes is worth weeks of practice on your own.

195 is as good as a 200 in my book, well done
it may just have been the conditions on the day holing you back, the same cast on another day might yeld you sucess, practice makes perfect and believe me the more you practice the better you will get. Lidel or Aldi sometimes do some line counters that can be attached to the rod and once you have cast run the line around the wheel and reel in as you do so the wheel registers the distance, they are fairly accurate too within a metre or so.
