close call conger, wicklow

#1 Post by asarmstrong »

People:myself

Duration:1830 till 2145

Tide:hw 1500

Weather: slight wind s/w nice night

Bait:squid herring lug

Rigs:2 hook flapper's

Results:22 whiting 1 missed conger

Report:very quite for the first hour thins picked up after that. all whiting very small 5 were in and around 25 cm that was the best of them.at 2115 id a savage bite thought it was a good cod , i was half into baiting my next trace so i let it develop.then next thing the rod came over on top of me i picked it up and felt what i new 2 be a good conger from the pull of it. it ran 4 at lest 30 yards before holding tight under the pier wall. after a bit of pulling and reeling i got him out.just as i got a look at his head for the first time he let go of what i found 2 be a shredded whiting. he wasn't hooked at all just holding on i was only using 1/0 hooks

:o :o :o :o :D

I had a conger in the mid teens last year, was just over 4ft long. On the same night my mate had one, easy 20lb, was 5 foot and a bit.

They can be caught, just put them back!
