Veals Mail Order
Just got another delivery from Veals this morning, another F****d up order :x . Thats the 4th time in a row they have send me an order that was either wrong items, broken items or overcharging. If they were not so busy stuffing the parcel full of catalogues that I have already they mite notice that the order is wrong.
Sure they are very nice and obliging when you call to complain but it should not happen in the first place.
Have I been unlucky or are standards dropping, I though I could always rely on Veals before.
Anyone know of a reliable mail order company?

I am surprised with this. I have used Veals myself for years and they have never messed up.
I also use Gerrys, found both companies to be very obliging and sound to deal with.
I actually had orders delivered from both companies in the past month and no problems.
Maybe they just dont like you :P :P :P

Haven't had any problems like that but I'm not using them so much any more because of the P&P cost. Seems to be far more expensive than a lot of other UK mail order outfits.

Guys P&P is part of mail order like it or not, its not the tackle companies who are making the money of freight, its the freight companies who work some kind of cartel or keep an eye on each other that close they act together.....last year the price of sending an 8ft rod from the UK to Ireland by TNT was around £40.00, they put that up to over £80.00 and most of the other companies like DHL and UPS done the same.
They moved the bar from 1.80m = £40 to 1.60m = £40....anything over 1.40m was charged £80.00.....I know Veals and Gerry's get a good deal from the freight companies because of the volume they send, but its still expensive compared to sending stuff anywhere in the UK....the other problem with the UK freight companies is Northern Ireland to them is not classed at part of the UK...even the Isle of White has a surcharge added and thats just off the south coast :?
All in all getting the wrong delivery does annoy the buyer, it can happen to anyone though, and the more times you order the risk of it happening goes up, at least both Veals and Gerry's have no quibbles when it happens and they try to right a wrong ASAP.......I know both Dave Box (owner of Veals) and Gerry quite well......they do care about their customers 100% and dont like to hear any bad reviews, when they do, someone will get told off about it...what more can they do
They do both get feed-back from forums like this....believe me!

On the P&P the best way to get around this is try and order in a group and in bulk. Veals charge 20 sterling no matter how much you get delivered and if your order is large enough you could try your case. I normaly have something incorrect from veals but I usually have large order but the issue has always been resolved quickly and easily. You can ring England for local rate if you use the cheap telephone companies but an email usually suffices. I would always check my bill carefully against what I get as I have been incorrectly charged for a large item that was needer order nor received. They may not be perfect but there are alot worse out there.

use both and find if there is a problem they sort it out asap, had items out of stock and was told when they should arrive, any thing damage was replace no questions asked, and i have been sent a few rigs free of charge for my trouble, as for p+p its the couior that charges the high prices, i know i have argued the fact that NI is part of the uk and if royal mail can do next day, and get it next day, why cant the courours who charge high prices for next day why cant the do next day to NI, still waiting for a good answer

A couple of people have mentioned receiving items free of charge from Veals, do you actually receive something free of charge or is it that veals don't charge you for sending a replacement item?
I have to admit that veals have always been excellent when there has been a problem (I've had plenty of experience) but the first step in any quality control chain should be to stop the problem from occurring in the first place.
I also pointed out to veals that I would like the 5% discount received by those that order on-line with just a few clicks. I have been spending alot of money with Veals over the years and always place my order by phone, but some newbie can come along and make a purchase online worth £100 and receive a 5% discount. Just because I don't want to be giving out my credit card details on-line means I have to pay 5% more that those that do.

John, not knocking you for asking for 5% discount on a phone order, but just pointing out online security regarding your credit card number...are you aware that your number is more at risk of fraud if given to a waiter in a restaurant than it is if given to an online shoping company like Veals.

I agree with Tom here, I don't like giving verbal details of my cc or bank account.
BTW
Did anyone notice that Bank of Ireland changed their BANKING365 (new) login procedure recently?
The new system was to select each digit of your pin from a drop menu (which meant anybody could see it over your shoulder)
They have reverted to customers entering their pin by typing it in a non viewable form field (ie asterisks are dispayed on the screen).
Hopefully there were no incidents before they changed back to the hidden input fields
.

saw that BOI had done that John. I presumed the original change to the drop downs was to foil key loggers? Not sure there is a good way to do it, although see that ulster bank are using key fobs with their business accounts which is going to be hard to beat.
