IFSA insurance
Could someone please explain to me why a large % of the cost of joining a club goes towards insurance but if I join a second or third club in the same year I must pay the insurance fees each time. Im sure that if I was unlucky enough to need to use the ins that it would not be payed out 2 or 3 times over.

something to do with what club you are fishing with..
you are covered by SAISAC insurance only on SAISAC comps(and afaik any other Leinster open/closed comps), but you would not be covered for any Munster closed comps, only a club in Munster will be able to provide the insurance cover for the region.
Thats my interpretation of it anyway..(could be totally wrong though)

I've also been annoyed by this. The way I see it - either a) you are being insured multiple times, which I doubt, or b) you are being insured once and IFSA is pocketing the multiple payments for insurance. I don't mind paying my affiliation fees to IFSA and knowing that some of it goes to help national teams, etc., but I do object to being ripped off on insurance.
I'd love to see what happens if you try to claim 3 times for the same accident!
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

I too am annoyed by this set up. I'ts a rule within the federation that and angler must be insured in the name of the club he is entering a competition under. I must look up on a treasurers report to see what kind of profit if any the federation make from it. Clubs might also be slow to change it as it is a littel money earner for them also.
I'll bring it up for discussen at the next Central Council meeting.

i would say that its just lazyness on behalf of the IFSA officials.
they dont want the hassel of having to sort out who has already paid insurance and who hasent.
i assume they pay an single premium to the insurer and what ever they make back is their own.
i wonder where the additional money is going....... that on top of the money coming from the likes of the masters etc ......................... makes you think doesnt it

Paul if you contact your club Secretary and ask him/her for a copy of the financial report issued at the 2007 A.G.M., thats if your club secretart attendet it, then you will see where the income and expendeture for the year ending 2007.
If your not happy with that go on a Committee and make yourself available to attend the 2008 A.G.M. and you can ask these question in person.

Hi Donal,
Do you know if this qeustion was raised before? Surely, it's not in the interest of the IFSA to overcharge or multi charge it's members for Insurance. I'm not sure if you will get the details required from the Annual report as it will not show how many people paid a multiple of times.... :? Just how many membership cards were issued. People like yourself, myself and Pete Davis could have a few cards and have been charged more than once for ISFA membership and insurance.

Hi JD, are those figures based on a certain amount of members being in a club?

It's not right. It really isn't.
It really depends on the wording of the policy. If it is a club that is insured, then an individual is insured as a member of that club, not as an individual. In other words he is insured for that club's competitions, and any competition he fishes as a member of that club (OPens etc).
