Abu Reels?

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Abu Reels?

#1 Post by jack01986 »

Im going to get one but cannot decide which one to get as there seems to be loads of them https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/ABU-reels.html
I was thinking of the ABU 6500C3CT Premium Mag Elite, Like your one eric it looks very cool. Or the chrome rocket but would prefer to have the mags to help with the casting any advice guys.

i have the new 5500mag and love it, i got the 6 pin break blocks remove and got a 2 pin one put in its place, but the mags alone provide great breaking on there own, thinking of getting the 6500mag( bling model)

Ye as long as you look good fishing it doesnt matter :D :D :D   . The chrome rocket looks pretty cool as well but id say the premium mag is easier to handle? The 5500mag is also an option as well. Dont think I would change to much on them just yet as Im only really starting beach fishing.

never used a rocket but one of my mags is magless, damn sand and neglect, so is suppose you could call it a rocket, it casts ok, but i have more confidence in the magged reel for hoofing it out, probably a placebo effect. i havent birdied the premium yet, never say never   then again the brakes are set to the max  you have a pm

Try the Hi speed mag 6500 elite, or the 7000 hi speed. If short on cash buy the green mag elite green, like me.

well if you want it for starting out, forget the 7000 hi seed.

the hi-speed i personally don't like but others love theirs. i think the build quality is crap.

to be honest i think the best you can do is get a green elite as i think they are much better made than the new ones.

i wouldn't dismiss the chromer just because it doesn't have mags. sometimes it can me eaisier to lean with as there is less to concentrate on. 2 blocks and a small bit of end tension and your ready to go.

Def Premium mag elite(orange) or the green mag elite.....

IMO if you buy an expensive reel (say around 160 euro) you WILL not and shouldnt expect a "crap" reel for the money you are handing out.

Wondering on what basis fishing midget gives this opinion as I was thinking of adding to my premium, sports mag, slosh 20 and 525.

Any thoughts?

i meant "crap" in relation to the old ones. i haven't got one personally as i have just read too many reviews that have said the gearing has stripped on them, and that the same people have had corrosion problems.

this is, of course, the main reason i don't have one and wont recommend them to anyone, and personally i hate the way they feel when using them.....but that is purely personal.

i just think the old ones are better quality. thats all.

just for the record i have 4 abus, 7ht turbo, 525 supermag an avet sx and others, so i like to think i know what I'm talking about but anyone who knows me will tell you i don't have a clue

Alex, the Ambassadeur 6500 C3 CT Mag and the 5500 C3 CT Mag (gun metal colour) are the highest spec Abu have ever made, they were designed by Peter Coogan to the same spec as the limited edition Millennium Reel (only 1000 made, I've not seen a photo of one let alone the reel) They have a totally new drag system, both have brass side plates and other parts are made from superior metals to the green MagElite. I got a couple a while back and the quality is better than my green mags both are fully built in Sweden.

The High Speed Mag and the 7000i Mag got all the hype and it seems unjustified after the feed back from users like Denis Brock and a few of the UK guys I know.

Tom.
