If you could only use 1 Rig, Ever again, Which one would it be? And Why?

Wine would probably be the Sheppy as it has its uses everywhere and you could vary the hook sizes for whatever you're targetting.

I agree with Al, 3 hook flapper all the way. I'd say most of my shore caught fish were on that (or a two hook flapper  when I couldn't be bothered fixing a rig). Use a sensibkle hook size and you'll pick up most things.

A 3 hook clip down rig with size2 B940's. This can be cast much further than a 3 hook flapper and can also become a 3 hook flapper.

A pulley rig. Though not for every situation this has given me the most pleasure fishing for decent fish.

Never mind Drew, he's probably been drinking again

Three hook clipped with mixture of size 2's and 4's, wouldn't leave home without them

From what I remember seeing in a magazine, it is essentially a series of pulley rigs..

For the fishing I do I tend to stick with the pennell with 4/0 and 2/0 .

Another fav of mine is the Portsmouth or Loop rig (basically a 1 up 1 down rig that can be clipped for distance).

Sorry Drew, I stand corrected  As for my quotation skills....

What though do you see as being the advantage of the 'sheppy rig'?

i have only started to use the 3 hook loop rig, it can be used as a flapper for in close or clipped for distance, and with the long bottom snood it could catch me a ray too. all in all very versatile.

Well Pete, The version of the Sheppy I use is as follows:

15cm Snood on the Pulley (30lb Snood)
50cm of Main line (usually 50/80lb)
15cm Snood on 2nd Pulley
50cm of Main line
(For the Marks I fish I use 1/0's for the Coalies/Codling)
Here's the Clever bit, either add an Imp, an Impact Shield, or a breakaway Impact Lead at the Bottom of the 2nd Pulley and both snoods will clip into it (Low 1 First, High 1 Second) allowing you to tuck the Baits in behind the lead.

The Main Advantages of this Rig which I can see are:
The Rough Ground version I've just described maintains the qualities of a Single Pulley (Getting the Weight Above the Fish on the Retrieve, etc) yet it puts 2 Baits out to the Feeding Fish.

The Clean Ground Version which would obviously involve up to 3 Pullys with Lighter Snoods and Smaller Hooks was designed by Flounder Anglers on the Isle of Sheppy, who believed when 1 Flounder was hooked its movement would enpart life into the other snoods allowing for multiple hookups, Possibly a Perfect short range Match Rig?

good pictures drew

id say the rig would have to be tied very well for the 2 clipped down snoods not to tangle a lot

them boys from sheppy had the right idea - with the action on the other snoods

am a firm believer of a bit of trolling action on the flappers to get the flats interested in having a look at the bait

2 lads from kerry were telling me the boys in donegal are firm believers in this!
