Hi All,
I normally fish the Suir Estuary for Cod over the christmas but this year I am going to be staying for a week in the Tralee/Dingle area.
Is it possible to catch cod down around there and if not whats the fishing like this time of year. Places to fish , species information etc would be much appreciated by board or PM.
Thanks in antic.

cod fishing on the west cost is extremely hit and miss, your best bet would be to target bass, thats if you can get to them through all the coalie and whiting.

I was down that way New Year 2 years ago and got whiting from Brandon Pier and a couple of sea trout (which suprised me, shame they were out of season though , but was a nice way to start 2006) to sandeel from the beach on the Tralee side of Cloghane estuary.
Think Steve is right though, maybe the Kerry lads will let you know better.
I am probably going to be down that way between Christmas and New Year for a day or two visiting/fishing around Cloghane if you are looking for a fishing buddy or two...

Brandon Pier produces them although the mate in Dingle has been saying they have been scarce of late, more whiting and pouting. Anyway if your heading over that direction I'd be chasing bass rather than cod Ant.
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
