north kerry strand 15/12

#1 Post by gearoid mc s. »

People:John Lynch & Me

Duration:2pm-7:30pm

Tide:low @ 3ish

Weather:mild enough with strong southerly easing towards the end of the session

Bait:mackerel,lug,black wraps,prawn,sandeel

Rigs:pennells clipped, portsmouth loops, long 3 hook flappers

Results:3 ray to 4lbs,1 dog,3 dab to 28cm, 1 red gurnard 30cm,7 coalies, 20 whiting and 3 shore rockling

Report:Started off at the strand an hour or so before low water, but we would have preferred to have been there earlier. John was first off the mark with a ray and i followed soon with one of my own which took about 7 minutes to land, i thought i was into a double figure!. after this i managed a double of a dog and dab and a few more fish while john picked up a good few whiting. I also picked up a nice gurnard which i was well pleased with!! At about half four the strand fishing began to slow down so after a short car trip we arrived at another beach mark a couple of miles west. I fished close in here(about 4 yards into the surf) for the smaller fish and had numerous trebles of coalies, whiting, rockling and dab. John tried out further for a bigger whiting or dab but all was quiet at range maybe its still a bit early for the big fish. packed up at the point after about 2 hours as the cold was begining to get the better of us and headed home. good days fishing and nice to get out after all the recent exams...

Well done, No sign of a bass up there? Good range of baits as well.
