rosses piont sligo 11 dec

#1 Post by yorkshire man »

People: me

Duration:4.30-8

Tide:rising HW at 6.30

Weather: windy (south Westley i think)

Bait:Mac Frozen squid, sand eel

Rigs: pulley and 2 hook flapper

Results:3 flounder ( i think) a plaice and hundreds of crabs

Report:

Was off work and hadn't fished for a a few weeks so i thought i would give the channel at rosses point a bash.
Got there and it was a bit to windy to fish in to the channel plus i didn't fancy rock hopping in the dark on my jack, thought about using the slip way at the yacht club but there were a few people messing around with b boats so i moved to the other side and fished back towards the beach,

put a big lump of squid out hoping for something big and fished the flapper close in with squid strip and mac.
caught the plaice first cast on mac strip , brought in the squid nothing left of it so tried a big lump of mac same again 10 Min's later crab this went on thought the whole session .

caught the flatties throughout the session interspersed with crabs think the fish and crabs must have been competing for the bait.

Still want to try the deep water channel but might make it a daylight session till i get an idea of what the rocks are like.

You will need more scent for the coddling. I would try lug wrapped in squid or mussel in squid, instead of just squid. Obviously crab if you could get it but I can understand it would be more than difficult up there. Keep trying.

Pete
plaice was pan size but went back in for another day other flatties were small about 7 inch nose to tail but very fat must have been plenty of food about after the rough weather we had recently.

cheers

I can vouch for the quality of Mikes bait last time out. Rats wouldn't take it never mind fish. The fact that the place in question was selling it for human consumption was the scary thing.
I'm going to give the channel a go tomorrow afternoon at Rosses Point I'll let you's know how I get on. I have some black lug and some frozen crab from my last trip to Waterford so it might help.
