Stolen Engine

#1 Post by yappo »

Just thought I'd pass this on --- be careful lads

Hi all,

I'm sorry to say that one of your fellow Club members of Club Powerboat.ie has had his 150 hp outboard engine stolen yesterday ( Wed 5 Dec 07) from his RIB which was parked at his home near Hodson Bay in Athlone.

The engine is a Yamaha F 150 Serial no. AETL 102 3594.

The engine is about 3 years old.

Given the size of the engine which was on an operational boat, this was a fair feat of engineering to actually disconnect, remove and load this large engine into a van or truck.

Could I ask each of you, as one of the 1300 members of Club Powerboat.ie, to help us pass the word within the Irish Marine community.

It of course possible that the engine was stolen to order. We can all help by keeping an eye out in and informing our local marinas, boat and engine dealers etc. for any boat that has suddenly acquired a three year old Yamaha in the next few weeks or months.

If anyone hears or sees anything please contact Atlhone Gardai (Irish Police) at 00 353 (0) 9064 92609 or any Garda Station.

Full details are at http://www.powerboat.ie/forums/showthre ... #post19416 for future reference. Updates will also be posted there.

I would also advise everyone to check their own boats and engines just in case. With an off season theft like this, it is often the case that the theft can go unnoticed for weeks.

Kind regards,

Stuart

big engine like that would need at least 4 lads to move it.

its not the first and certainly not the last to go like this.

two years ago there were a couple of 70 hp engines robbed from a compound on bray harbour removed from boats with all controlls attached. the engines were found in a van heading for rosslare they also caught 4 FOREIGN NATIONALS and 2 managed to get away.
they might be back in business robbing to order..........
