Duration: 1700- 0000

Weather: ok
Bait: frozen crab, lug, mackeral and shrimp/ prawns
Rigs: 1up 1 down
Results: 1 bass, 1 dog, 15 coalies all over 40 cm, and a whiting
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report:
bait was a big problem for me on this session, couldnt get fresh peeler so i raided my frozen stock, however due to the fact that they were defrosting by the time i hit midleton on friday night i stuck them in the fridge, they were very soft by sat night.
went out to ardnahinch at 0430 to dig a few lug under the power of a headlamp, but due to the rain i was digging blind as all the lug marks were washed away. after an hour of digging blind i packed up with 8 lug.
went out at 1500 to ballinwilling and ballycrennan, and had the same problem again, an hour of digging blind in places i havent seen in over 10 years resulted in 40 lug. at that point i had enought of getting soaked so i went to youghal.
set up at claycastle, with a nice surf rolling in and 4 other anglers already there only had 1 coalie between them.
started off poor but once the tide started to flood the fish made an appearance, landed 5 coalies, a bass and a dog by 9.30 and noticed that the other lads had packed up and left at this stage. as i was running out of casting room and my headlamp was dying i decided to try the river.
went to youghal carpets, which was packed with timber and the 4 lads that were on the beach were already there, and by the looks of it were having a good session. with about 20 codling in the 4 to 6 lbs bracket between them.
saw another good cod coming in as i set up so hopes were high, but that was to be the last cod caught for the night. every cast from then on was a coalie and a single whiting made an appearance.
enjoyable night, with a nice few fish, fuming i didnt move to the river an hour earlier for a few decent codling.
