carnlough
People:me and bigliam
Duration:18-30 to 23-30, 5 hours in all
Tide:coming in, full at 22-45
Weather:not bad for November, a wee bit of rain every so often
Bait:sandeel,mackerel.squid,lug,rag
Rigs:3 hook flappers and 2 hook bombers
Results:big Liam got a flounder and a coalie. me i got a plaice, two coalies, shore rockling and a codling
Catch and Release:: Yes, everything went back
Report: met up with Liam to fish red bay but the wind made it difficult so we went to carnlough, the beach was packed as there was a competition on, some coalies and a bass had been caught. So we found a empty spot and set up, it wasn't long before everyone was forced up onto the promenade by the incoming tide, i was first in with a 18cm plaice Liam got a coalie, i got a shore rockling which have a large rag in its mouth, the hook 2/0 didn't penetrate but the greedy git wouldn't let go. Liam soon landed a small flounder, which was his last fish. Distance played a part just before high water as i got two coalie by casting over 90yards out.The fishing was slow at this stage, even the crabs stopped biting, so in the attempt to boost my catch i did a short cast of 15 feet or so hoping for a flounder, the waves bounced the rod tip around before another angler saw the rod double over, so i wound in and bang, a codling of about 3lb, i was gobsmacked, after driving to Waterford for the cod, i get one 1.5hours from home, after that nothing. Thanks to the lads fishing the comp who gave us there rag and mackerel when they where leaving, thanks lads that was nice of you. Another new mark for me and a great trip, one note all the bites came when the moon went behind some clouds, i wonder if it was too bright with the full moon out?
