Bullock Harbour Rocks 17/11/07

#1 Post by jack01986 »

People:Just me

Duration:12 till half 1

Tide:Rising

Weather:Windy and Rainy

Bait:Rag

Rigs:Float

Results:1 Corkwing(I think)

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Went out to Sorrento to try for some wrasse, took a quick look down and there was a huge swell crashing onto the shore. Tried Bullock harbour instead was a bit more sheltered. Kept having the bait taken off the hook, managed to get one eventually. Then two seals came into the little bay where i was fishing so packed up and went home.

Nice fishing Jack,

I'm going to say Ballan wrasse, rather than corkwing. I could be wrong though. Nice looking fish all the same.

best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'

Thought it was a corkwing a cool little fish. You can sort of see the blue/green piping along the face of the wrasse. It was alot more obvious in the daylight my phone didnt get the colurs too well.

Yes its a corkwing. A good photo as it shows the little spot on the tail that's sometimes seen on corkwings. The surefire way for id is the serrated preoperculum (the slits in front of the gill slits). In all the other wrasse this is smooth. On a corkwing it is like a little saw. :)
