penn roddy 175

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

I think they do a bit of everything, conor.

As regards the Roddy, I had one once off ebay for a very handy price. When I got it and compared it to an ABU 6500, I donated it as a prize for a club competition.

Make what you will out of that!

mostly coarse i heard although. the roddys are suspicious because i do think they are very cheap. My local deal(mckee's) never heard of them.

i got one a good while ago from america. i couldnt believe a penn reel at this price. however the reel is made in china not america and you get what you pay for. on one of my first trips with it my buddy was passing my rod to me out of the boat and he dipped the reel in the sea. i rinsed it when i got home but the next day it was corroded and stiff. these reels are one of those types that are sold under many different names. i would not recommend them. if you do buy one open it up and grease it up well. also gears are plastic. more suited to freshwater fishing pike/trolling.

hi ady i have dealt with that crowd in the past and never again. me an a mate sent them an order for just over £200, most of it was for fly fishing gear. and every thing we got off them was just pure CRAP!! their stuff is just cheep dirt, if i were you stay clear of them. there is a lot of very good fishing sites on e bay, but check their Rep; and feedback before you buy.....hope this helps.

I got this reel on christmas eve from glasgow angling centre and it is not a penn product nowhere on the packaging or documentation does it mention anything to do with PENN. When I took it out of the box the drag was tightened right down and when I turned it it felt as though the bearing was knackered so my advice would be avoid this reel...
