livebaiting

#1 Post by paulocallaghan »

anyone out there livebait for the likes of codling/ bass etc.

tried it a couple of times but to no avail. however the method i tried was to attach a small coalie to a slider, but i couldnt get the coalie to do much.

would i be better off using a livebait rig, ie a 5/0 with a size 2 tied to the gape and wait for a decent fish to take the smaller fish.

any advice appreciated

Hi Paul,

can't say I've done much livebaiting to be honest but the above method seems to be the way to go. Small piece about it in Sea Angler this month too.

I'm defo going to try it on a second rod when the cod are in proper!

i only livebait for seatrout,an the rig i use is near enough like your one.i use a grip lead, an 6feet above it i have a snood of about 2feet toped off with a small treble, then a live sandeel hooked just by the lip,it works well for me, but easy on the cast, a hard swing will only see your bait fly off. when my lead is set i tighten up to get a fair bend on the rod tip.
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"
right i'am off for a swally!!!!!!! so were's the F***'n purse!!!!!!!
