Multipliers - Which is best?

#1 Post by DL.TURBOT »

I am deciding on a new mutiplier, I did buy one (my first ever multiplier a couple of months ago but its not really a shore caster, More of a boat reel - So now Im after a proper caster, Im deciding between:

ABU MAG ELITE

ABU SPORTS MAG

PENN 525 SUPER MAG EXTRA

Any Advice? I just need it for good distance & strength, It will be on a 13ft rod & I fish all over the place rough ground to clean beaches!

General consensus seems to be for strength for rough ground go for Penn 525, for clean sandy ground go for ABU.

The only thing puts me off the Penn is No Level wind, I know people say you get used to it but it just seems awkward to me, even more so with a longer rod like 13 or 15ft!

species for 2010 (27)
species for 2011 (12)
species for 2012 (8)
best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'

Don't worry about lack of levelwind, after a few goes with it thumbing the line back on becomes second nature. You do it without realising you're doing it.

i would say go with the 525 but save yourself some money and get the mag xtra. i don't think the supermag xtra has any advantages and it costs alot more.

the new mag is the business for clean and mixed ground if you going to be fishing a lot af rough ground try out one of the Diawa slosh's first they will pull through anything.

Abu Mags, any of the 6500's are good for medium to clean ground.
The old model 7HT is foolproof and I found it a great reel, never had a days trouble and casts well in all conditions.

Penn 525 Mags are good and are stronger than the above but I found it slightly harder to control (I only have the older one).

But in fairness you won't go wrong with any of them, all great reels in their own right.
If you are not used to casting multipliers and fish clean or cleanish ground from my experience the Abu or 7HT is the way to go.

But again, everyone differs on this subject.
