New Grauvell Reels????

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

New Grauvell Reels????

#1 Post by happyguy73 »

Lads first off apologies for posting in the tackle review section if it should have been posted elsewhere

Has anyone compared the Mustad Centurion CZ7500 Surfcast and the
Grauvell Zeus 5000?

They look identical! I have the mustad one and was looking through sea angler last night and saw the grauvell and could not see the difference to the mustad, with the exception of graphics of course.

my mustad is excactly the same color scheme as the one shown in sea angler too.

Maybe I am missing something obvious though and apologies if I am.

also if you compare the GRAUVELL DAKAR Z 5000 and the Mustad CZ6500 Centurion Bass Reel . The only obvious difference (based on the text in the adverts ) is that Mustad have added 4 ball bearing somewhere.

considering there are such large price differences I just thought I would post here and hopefully someone will save themselves a few quid for what seems to be the same reels.

Both from the same factory, just a name change.....here today gone tomorrow kind of product, they probably dont even stock parts, its cheaper to give away a new reel if anything goes wrong.

I have the Grauvell Dakar and its a good solid workaday reel. Have had no probs with it and I have it more than a year. I reckon its good value. I didn't know Mustad's was similar.

I had previously a grauvell Tuareg which proved very problematic and a factory fault appeared after the fifth time I used it I reckon. However, I didn't give it away - would be lousy to give away a faulty reel in my books.
In fact, the vendor was more than willing to send it back to the factory and replace with a better model at no extra cost to me.

Pm me in you want more info.

Rockhopper,

I think you are right about coming from the same factory. In the case of the Mustad Centurion / Grauvell Zeus, a lad sent me a link to a company in China who sell an identical looking reel (whether the internals are the same or not warrants investigation) but they charge in the region of $12 on orders of 20 or more, then add VAT, shipping etc.

I'm not knocking the quality or durability of the Grauvell reels though as I dont own one. But if they are being bought at those kind of prices its no wonder its cheaper to give a new reel as a replacement rather than stock parts to repair.

I know my own Centurion gave trouble with the anti reverse and was replaced with a new reel. To be honest since replacement, it has never seen the outside of the box and I keep it as a back up reel, I just dont have faith in it anymore. but I did buy it new a quite a low price (£35) so its not a big deal.

Interesting to see what appears to be the same reel being sold under different brand names with equally different price tags.

nothing wrong with it as such but very much a case of Caveat emptor!

I dont own any grauvell....but i think they dont have their own reels(i am just guessing....not sure bout it)....i think they just source out any reels in china factory and put their brands on them....but they also have a few good reels such as Targa ZF,Excel ZF which i think sourced out from Ryobi of japan,Ryobi Applause which have less bearing....same reels in australia marketed as Penn Applause with a different bearing count.I own this Ryobi Applause and its an excellent reels.....
