Dun laoghaire Harbour 17-10-2007

#1 Post by Al »

People:Myself & Mb3

Duration:1-6...i think

Tide:Flooding

Weather:Sunny but a bit cold at times

Bait:Rag & Mack

Rigs:3 hook flappers and Slider float rig for me!

Results:About 30 pollock and 10 Mackeral between us maybe more  ..oh yeah lots of pin whiting too, mostly to Mark thank god :)

Catch and Release:: No Kept Mackeral for bait and dinner!

Report:Went out to Dun laoghaire to see if we could get some flats, We planned on going right up to the end of the West Pier but stopped half way and decided to have a cast! Almost Straight away i was into a nice little Pollock on the float rod and Mark into a double with a Pollock and A mackeral. Fishing was non stop for about 3 hours as we were onto fish nearly as soon as the bait hit the water!Plenty of doubles for mark too. Most fish were about 1lb or so and i think that the mackeral put up a better scrap on the float gear than the Pollock! Fishing slowed down a bit but i was still getting knocks on the float rod while Mark was getting pestered with the pin whiting! Saw my float shoot down at one stage and struck into a heavy weight only to feel my line going slack and my float coming back up on it's own, maybe a bigger pollock or Wrasse? as it was my only float i made a float out of a water bottle! Worked well but not as easy to see bites on! Put out a Congor rod too but no Joy! Decided to head at around 6, fishing seemed to go off at the ebb and also started to get a bit colder!
Strange thing was i have never seen mackeral come that far into the harbour and they weren't interested in feathers at all! Rag worked the best on the day fished under a float had more takers than the Mack strip!
Enjoyable days fishing to say the least kept busy anyway, no flats caught but can't really complain at all with the craic we had from the pollock and Mackeral :)
Will add a few photos when i get them off my girlfriends camera!
