TRAMORE WATERFORD 12/10/07 BIG BASS SESSION

Tide:flooding

Weather:good

Bait:peeler crab and mackeral

Rigs:one hook pully and one hook flapper

Results:four bass,3 dogs,few coalfish

Catch and Release:: Yes/No

Report:
early morning session near back strand in tramore,very good bass fishing ,with two bass each ,my fish weighing 8.7lb,9.2lb,with mickys 9.4lb,and a 11.2lb speciman.this was our best session of year in our fav spot,dogs and coalfis also showed,we hope to give it another shot weekend

ill give you a word of warning - the catch and release disicples will not like that picture

so expect a barrage

maybe you practice it sometimes maybe you dont - but thats what happens with pics of dead bass on this site

the bag limit is 2 bass per angler no rules were broken.we retured two of about 8lbs and 4.5lbs the following nite from same spot,

to those who see the bad points ,we have taken counless number of bass al between 4.5lbs and above from this mark in last few weeks all of which were retured with withnesses to prove,we also retured fish following nite from this mark,the fish above were taken as we tawt we had 4 specimans till we weighd them in local angling shop few hours later,this mark is only known by us and couple of other angers,we always return fish at thismark since we started fishing it 3 years ago as we tink it will pay off as we are convinced there is a huge fish to be taken there if we dont fish it out.its common sence and its starting to show a few decent fish this year ,weights are well up on last two years.if people want to give out leave them,we could take bass everynite out of the place and have nothing there in few months time,but we havent or wont,we plan on keeping our mark as good as it is now.or better.sorry for the rant thanks

Fish were all taking useing crab tipped with mackeral,we returned following nite and mickey took two sizeable fish on mackeral srips alone,i blanked using crab alone ,they seem to like mackeral at the momement as we caught bass on front tramore beach few weeks ago while bout 5 other anglers around us didnt catch bass when using lug and razorfish.if u want bass at moment in tramore or tramore area try a short cast with a fresh fish bait and u will be surprised how well it works,even for smaller fish it works well,try it on a second rod against ur lug or other bait and u will be surprised trust me ,just watch out the dogs sometimes feed close in and might take ur bait :d

You don't need a carcass to claim a specimen Bass.

If you're interested in claiming shore-caught specimens, just get a good digital scales and get it certified, then take lots of pictures of the fish.

we already have a scales ordered from england since monday,as we expect bigger fish and we will return them after weighing,altho the odd one will be kept for table,nothing wrong with that.

have found peeler on a pennel ledger really close in to be by far the most effective way to target them this time of year. nice fishing.

Firstly Let me congratulate you on some magnificent fish.
but I feel I have to bring up something that probably most people on here are completely unaware of.
I have no problem with someone keeping their limit of two bass per day as long as they are going to eat them (btw giving them to other people is unacceptable, if you are not going to eat them yourself, put them back)
But what most people don't realise, is that by releasing loads of fish around the 4-5lb mark, and only keeping the odd few bigger fish of 8-9 lbs, you are doing immesurably more damage to the bass stocks than you realise.
from spawning a bass only has a minute chance of reaching sexual maturity of around 5 lbs, even a 4lb bass has a tiny chance of reaching spawning age, and as such if you kill fish under 5lb's, you have little or no effect on the bass population.
conversely, a bass that has reached spawning age, and perhaps spawned 3-4-5 times over the years is a fish in a million, with superior genetics and well learned survival instincts..
So if you think about it, every fish of breeding size (which your 4 were) that you bang on the head does massively more damage to the population than killing a bass of 3-4lbs.
incidentially, a bass of 3-4 lbs is a far superior tasting fish than one of 8-9lbs...
Can I put a plea out to all the anglers on this site, think about what i have mentioned here, and please if you are going to hit a couple of bass over the head (which is 100% ok by me) let it be the small ones, not our breeding stock.
p.s fishing a spot for 3 years specifically to try catch a huge fish, without a certified scales and a camera, really didn't give the fish any chance...

Take a bow Dave, couldnt agree more...!

By all means keep two bass if you must but keep the 3-4Ib'ers. Take a pic of the larger Bass and put them back. If you really are keeping them for the table then you wont mind what size they are.

Those fish have run the gauntlet for years, avoiding seals, nets, anglers etc only to make the mistake of taking your bait.

I also wouldnt have given the details away of your mark but thats just a personal thing.

Dont get me wrong guys, not having a go just a bit of food for thought - excuse the pun.
Its hypocritical of us to rejoice at the Bass ban and then keep some of the very fish that the nets would have got.

i read your report with an expectation of ,when the pics came up,wonderfull beach scenes, no a rubbish trophy shot in a kitchen, i am in shock mod edit you can claim a specimien bass if yo get organised with camera,scales etc without killing them!!!!!!!!!

Great fishing mate id say many of the anglers on this page wished they would have caught fish like that this year.

Hi Dave, what you said it's really interesting...where did you find those info? I mean ok, probably everybody knows the bass regulation but learning a bit more could help everybody in being more conscious about the situation.
