balscadden low rocks

fished today from about 1-5.had one haddock on frozen mackerel.kept feeling the fish biting but could never hook them.anyone know why :?:

Hi Steve,
Could it be your hooks were too big or maybe you were covering up the hookpoint with the bait?
What size was the haddock. Have to admit, never heard of haddock being caught before. Is this a common species to catch?

same as jk,I find this is usually down to having a large bait on hooks that are 2 big.Alot of anglers use a 3/0 hook which is good for the larger spieces but you can sometimes go as small as a size 2 if you are missing bites.

he was small(8 inches) but still i think its pretty unusual around howth.he was definately a haddock.they look like pollock but they are silver/white and have fairly handy teeth on them

I was on the high rocks sunday also, took a haddock too. same last sunday.
