Greystones South Beach??

#1 Post by Ed Burke »

With all the reports soming in from the North beach at the moment I am just wondering if the once fashionable South beach is holding fish. Anybody fished there recently??

About three weeks ago, I caught (apart from doggies) a baby ling (I think!) and two codling, the best at 2lbs, to the left of the stream. The strong southward current kept putting me into the snags though.

'Baby Ling'

Neil, that 'baby Ling' you caught was actually a three bearded rockling. They are quite common on the south beach at this time of year and a common mistake made by anglers. Ling are very rarely caught from the shore other than very deep rock marks. Ling only really begin to be found at depths of 100 ft or more and at very rough ground noteably wrecks. Sorry to shatter your hopes. Great little fish though. They tend to be bigger the further south you go.
