Area's around clew bay, co. mayo

G'day all, first post so be gentle!

Working in Castlebar last two weeks staying at westport quay, tried to hit a few marks on days off and afternoons after work.

purteen nr keel, Achill Island: target pollack maybe macks....Off the rocks to the right of harbour first cast spinning jelly sandeel...pollack! First ever too being an Aussie maybe 2 pounds, woot woot!
Walked round the bay to the headland between purteen and dooargh(?) there's a steepish cliff fished the bay side into deep water spinning jelly sandeel. Five pollack varied size up to 5 pounds great fun on 8 pound mono. Saw some action under the froth and banged out a golden toby lure and got in to some mackeral too caught 6-7 decent size. Great day off !
Fished a couple of marks out towards louisburgh, lecanvey pier, bertraw strand and old head pier, tough going but only had frozen mack and 9ft pier rods so couldn't hit good areas. Blanked mostly except crabs and the odd mack over the rocks at lecanvey on the flood. Mate caught some baby pollack on the wall of the pier with handline. Great fun anyway and thanks for the info on marks from this great forum and website!!

Cheers Benno
