ramore head co .antrim 2nd october 07

#1 Post by Ronald »

People:me

Duration:7hrs

Tide:up and down

Weather:light se wind sunny

Bait:rag,mackerel,blueys

Rigs:single hook pat ,pulley rig and 3 hook flapper

Results:conger,ballan wrasse,corkwing wrasse,pollack,doggies,dab,coalie,pouting,poor cod .

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:took a run up the north coast on tuesday ,a light se wind meant i could fish ramore head in confort ,so after a scramble down to the point i got set up with the wrasse gear ,i started out a distance with the carp rod ,trotting ragworm around in the tide on a 3oz plain lead, plenty of fish hitting the baits but nothing big best wrasse touching 2lb and a few decent pouting .i was basically casting up tide and keeping the line tight so the lead bounced around in front of me ,lost a few weights but it seems to work . a couple of guys arrived and set up with floats so the tide kept there gear fishing right in front of me ,so i done the decent thing and moved for them :evil:
I set up the beachcaster when i got to the next spot and got tortured by doggies ,at one stage i was getting triple shots of fish ,anything from 2 doggies and a wrasse to doggie pollack and dab ,literally 10 min in water full house for an hour and a half ,even managed a conger on the boat rod in close in between baitting and casting the beachcaster ,hectic but good to see . I'll stick up some photos when i get them of my camera .

Sounded like a good days craic Ronald.

How did you get on with the blueys? Did you have much luck with them? I was thinking of trying them myself but have had mixed info on how people have got on.

the blueys seemed to work ok for the doggies ,but to be honest it was hard to tell , the fish were hitting the baits hard as soon as they settled on the bottom ,weather it was rag and mackerel ,or rag and bluey ,i got my conger on a half pouting .
As for the 2 muppets who set up beside me ,ramore head is a fair size and i was the only one fishing it when i arrived ,i went straight down to the point as it was flat calm ,an hour later these guys arrived ,set up 40 feet to my left (tide was running left to right) and started drifting there floats right round in front of me ,in fact past me at one stage :roll: so i just shifted as i couldn't be a@#~d with an argument .

I reckeon the doggie trailed the dab and the rig towards the rough ground and the wrasse picked up the ragworm ,the spot i was fishing is clean sand then rough ground .
great craic for my type of fishing (speices hunting)

Excellent fishing !!

Very interesting treble. Would that be a typical rig you would you often? What exactly is it? There seems to be quite a bit of bling on it.
