3 weeks to 16 September

#1 Post by Spinner »

Had three weeks in Ireland to 16 Sep. Weeks one and three around Dungarven and week two in the Beara Peninsula. It didnt rain once - that must be a record for Ireland

Had a great time and many thanks to Cortaz for his help, advice and good company for the Dungarven fishing.

Ended up with 19 bass (best were 5.5 lb and 5.0 lb), a few mullet to 4.5 lb, a couple of small gilthead bream, plenty of pollack to 3lb, bull huss, dogfish,, mackarel, garfish and a couple of gobies.

Should have had some wrasse but never targeted them - couldnt be bothered to collect the crab.

The bass fishing in Dungarven is very good, but you need to be careful. One day I was out there alone and I had just caught one of the bigger bass and I stayed out too long. On the way back in I was heading for the shore with the water at around waist level, when it suddenly got deeper. Then it was up to the top of my waders and still getting deeper and the tide was flooding. I kept going on tiptoes but started shipping water. Luckily it wasnt too long till I crossed the gully and it got shallower. Dont head out there on you your own till youve been shown the way by the local experts first and then take it easy!

Beara is good and the cable car ride is brilliant. There was a bottle of holy water in the cabin - might come in useful if the wind picked up!

Cant wait to return and cheers Arthur - hope you get some big fish in the autumn.

Cheers
Martin
