Help!

Right, I've just started competition fishing with the Club, I'm not doing too bad, Usually come somewhere in the mid Range (Ok, I was last once!, But I didn't know I had to Measure the Fish!).

So, Can any of you seasoned Boat Competition Anglers give me some Rigs Advice, and general info to improve my Boat match Angling.

The most important thing ive learned is find out what pattern/colour works for what fish, also learn the venue and find out what species is predominant... adjust tactics accordingly...i make all my own boat rigs, with feather/beads/blades and muppets to...i copy other "proffessional" packet bought rigs...ive only been out once with them, that wasnt sufficient enough as a tester...*** best colours for cod= white and red, yellow too.... pollock=red and pink they should the highest scoreres on the card..wrasse love lumi yellow***u can pick up herring/whiting on mini muppet rigs,...just to make clear you can pick any species on any rig, its about being at the right depth, at the right time, on the right peg and on the right boat :wink: ***the colours findings are my own personal experience

im in the same boat as you, i did very well in the junior comps off the boat in the club but i've now made the step up to senior level, now i finish in the middle order, i found the shamrock animal rigs to be very good, got tope on them without any breakages what so ever. i basically copy them now . for your edibles(cod,haddock,Pollock etc.. ) i found pink to be the way to go, tip your feathers with rag, hooked once through the eye, wraps also work. when anchored during a species comp for animals send down a few baited feathers, there should be whiting, gurnard and haddock about, earning you a few bonus points. the most important piece of advice i can give is don't be afraid to copy others on your boat who are catching.good luck!

Yeah, Those Animal Rigs Look the Biz! I used them for Thornies up in Swilley and they worked well, I'll be taking a few Sets to Ballycastle next Saturday for the Spurs and Blondes, Can't wait!

The norm on these outings seems to be boys fishing with a single snood above a Spreader boom, 1 Up, 2 Down, Is this a favoured method. Also see a lot of boys using coloured leads, does this increase catch rates?

also try shamrocks kilmore killers.and the old orange eddystone eel still is a top pollock catcher.
