Headed down to Currabinny Pier to try catch my first Gurnard. When I arrived it was a lovely evening, no one around and it looked like a great spot. By the time i had set up it had started to get dark. In the mean time my other half had caught several small pollack on the mini mackeral rig.
Once I got going I was getting bites continously...My hooks were being cleaned in literally seconds, the frozen Mackeral being extremely popular with whatever was out there.
Over the short time I was there I managed to catch two species new to me, 1 three bearded rockling and the other was an ugly son of a @%&*!. (See the pic below to ID it)
The "ugly fish" made me realise I should really learn what's out there for my own safety's sake. It didn't look like a weaver but it DID have that "I'm poisonous" look about it.
The downside to Currabinny pier is that boats are constantly comeing and going, collecting and dropping people off. But it's different to the types of spots i've fished up untill now and so i'll going back there over the next few days to see what's to be caught during daylight hours.

Learn what's dangerous and what's not.
Currabinny is one of those outdoor aquariums Neilus talked about.
Learn what to do if the hook just won't come out.
Either I'm a big wuss or fishing a night can freak a newbie out.
