here we go again..

Brandon beaches October 20 6pm-11pm (MA)

LW HW
17:31 23:32

Definitely unlucky there this year with the conditions. Suggested to fish later so if we were to get flat calm conditions again at least half the comp would be in darkness and there would be dogs and ray around. Also prob safe to assume most would be staying over therefor not rushing to get on the road.

so where exactly is the beach..
is it the one just east of Brandon and north of Ballyquin???

Actual beach TBC, Goulane last year, but maybe a different one this year. It will be west of Castlegregory  . I'll talk to commitee over next 2 days. BTW a boat comp to follow on the Sunday!

The beaches west of Castlegregory are Kilcummin and Fermoyl these are two north facing beaches. Inch beach, west facing, is a 20 minute spin over the mountain and should be looked as a plan "B".

Looks like a few people will be staying over so maybe we should start thinking about accommodation for this soon.

Any thoughts about where we should base ourselves?

Hi Derek
You have to be a member of the club to fish the competition (insurance etc), and list is closed for this year.

You are quite welcome to come down, fish outside the pegged zone and meet us all.

most of us have got to the stage where when we dont fish for any length of time wee start going cold turkey (not good).. have to feed the addiction..

you can always join the club next year.. then you get to meet up with a load of guys you met on the internet for a bit of fun and a few drinks in the bars and go clubbing afterwards (that sounds soo wrong  )

i'll be there god willing.. (or at least MC willing to give me a lift down  )

Plenty of fish down there at present lads. Spent last week fishing it and averaged 9 fish per 3 hour session, with some incredible sessions (13 bass in one 3 hour session). Mainly bass on offer, but flounder and plaice also being caught. I'm sure I would have caught plenty more flatties if I hadn't been using 8 inch sandeels! Best fish was an 8.5lb cracker off Strad, althought the average bass was around 2.5lbs.

I'd advise against picking a specific beach this time lads. If there is surf it's a matter of picking the beach with the most fishable one (please God there will be surf this time!!!!!!!!!!!!). Fairly sure I'll be able to make this one too.

Only possible downside is that I was speaking to someone there tonight and they mentioned the red tide...

seen this stuff when out in the boat recently from Dingle and Brandon yesterday, foul looking, not sure if it is the 'red tide' that does the harm or not, I did send an email to the marine dept last week and he said:

Thanks for your information. We have had reports of this red tide and samples have shown that it is a plankton called noctiluca .... Fortunately in this case it is harmless,
but is pretty spectacular with the red colour it causes

Hoping to get there myself all going well. I think Dingle would be the best base, especially for a few scoops the night before.... and maybe after  Hopeing to make a few days of it.... we'll see how the Minister for internal affairs reacts to the application.
