Belmullet 2008

Hello,

It looks as this forum could be what I'm looking for for quiet some time now.
I'm thinking of organizing a boat trip to Belmullet Summer 2008. I passed there this year and the north side looks pretty attractive. Quiet, remote, no charter boats and little tourism.
Maybe a bit too quiet because I struggle to find information on accomodation north of Belmullet. I'm looking for a holiday house for a week or so.
Secondly can anyone help me out with information about the fishing over there? I'm thinking of fishing marks in particular.
(The last years I went to the sout west and was pretty much spoiled as a local angler provided me with GPS-locations for different fish species.)

Anyone?

Hi Frank and welcome to the site ,you'll find pretty much all you need to know here ,if its shore marks your looking for as well you should put up a post in the shore angling questions and answers or pm kieran He fishes around that area a wee bit .As for holiday homes check out this web site ,I've used them a few times now and never had any problems http://www.imagineireland.com/.

Hi Frank

Yes, its a good spot and not fished that much. I will be trying to get out there this week to look at some more marks! My next door neaighbour runs a small business letting cottages at http://www.eurocottage.ie - his cottages are too far away but he might have local knowledge (he's dutch).

In terms of the marks , all I can do is point you to the front of the site and the section "shore marks" - everything that I have found is up there bar any marks where I have been asked not to give information out publically, which has to be respected. I do not use GPS myself.

Sean Lavelle a local skipper is very knowledgeable and very generous with his advice. You will find him in the charter boat section. Just a word of warning, the mini fjords facing the Atlantic are fearsome places if there is any swell at all and access is the main problem. Scrambling over rough ground for 15-30 minutes would be the average in most places - there are a few exceptions - and that can include stretches of pure bog! I would not advise even experienced and safety conscious anglers to fish some of these marks on their own - bring some keen angling companions!

One final point: the best fishing here is September to November in between the storms! Leave it as late as possible...
