saw an interesting “Dream Fishing” episode on Discovery Real time today about
Annual Catch & Release Shark Fishing Tournament (IGFA Registered) “BRITS” v “YANKS”.
This is in general an informative series.

One boat on the third and final day this year for instance, ‘Eldorado’owned by larger-than life Mike O’Reilly, boated a staggering 44 blue sharks, with several others lost. The largest landed and released, estimated at over 400lbs [the British record stands at 230lbs remember] fell to the rod of Brit Mark Williamson, a veteran of all five past tournaments. Several other large blues between 250 and 300lbs were also taken on the other boats and the average overall size easily topped 100lbs. Spectacular fishing indeed when you consider that under tournament rules, everyone used just 30lbs test mono stand-up outfits.

there was a 350lb ish lemon shark caugth on 12wt fly gear recently, think it took about 2 hours. guess its all about technique and effeciently using you drag, its quite difficult to put more than 30lbs of pressure on stand up gear

"It’s worth mentioning that UK line class rods are rated different to US ones. Our UK 50 class is equivalent to a US 30 class in action and power. The length of UK rods averages 7ft which allows for a good action to be built in to the blank. I like rods to bend a little, then lock up pretty solid when the power is piled on for sharking.
A standard UK porgie outfit is a 50lb (US 30) class rod, 45 to 48lb line, plus a 6/0 reel either a Penn Senator or International. I mainly target porbeagles with UK 30lb class rods (US 20) and 25-28lb line as I’m looking for maximum sport"

2014 Species : No 3 spined lesser spotted blennies,no cuckoo guppies, no blue throated chicken groupers, just big fish.------------------------------------------------------------------

hope you got bost fixed ok. 3 boats within a few berths of me were simultaneously undergoing mechanical electrical repair the other day. make you wonder how many more waiting to be worked on :roll:
i can just imagine going into the tackle shop..there's no sport with this 50lb mono, can i have a spool of 48lb

Really hurt collecting the boat on saturday in blistering sunshine and no wind to drive it to the shop :evil:
Really itching to have another crack at the blues before the weather breaks
Half a cunning plan to target some porbeagles as well
Now, if only the weather will cooperate for another few weeks
I watched some guys get off a rodman sports boat after an afternoons fishing saturday, and get into a helicopter parked in the marina car park
Kicked up a hell of a lot of dust, but boy was I jealous :mrgreen:
Now , thats the way to fish and avoid the traffic
