Tigger II, Cork Harbour, 04/09/07

#1 Post by thescotsman »

People: Me, Johnathon. David

Duration: 14.00 -19.00

Tide: LW 17:40

Weather: Fair, slight breeze from sw

Bait: launce, hokkais, feathers

Rigs: single hook booms , single hook flapper

Results: Gurnard, Pollack, Whiting, Coalfish, Mackerel, Dab, Scad

Report: Not a great days fishing to be honest, victim of circumstance. Had a bit of wind against tide, which had a chop coming right into the harbour, so was a little bit uncomfortable. In fact, for Johnathon it was too much. He was pale shadow of a man by the time we'd drifted out towards Roche's Point. Had to head for calmer waters and dropped him off in White Bay where he stayed for a couple of hours.
The engine was giving me problems the whole time, cut out once or twice and kept losing it on high revs, fine on low revs
Most of the fish we got on that first drift. We then tackled up for some flats and anchored. Picked up a few small dabs and then I got a decent one at last. Nothing on my other rod out for ray.
Headed into the harbour for calmer waters and hopefully more flats, but no joy. Went back to pick up Johnathon now the sea had calmed a bit, he hadn't caught a fish, so took him over to Carlisle where he picked up a couple of pollack, he was still queasy though. We stopped a few times on the way dropping for macks, but only managed one.
Wasn't a great trip what with the chop and the engine etc, but the lads enjoyed it all the same suprisingly. Good few species considering how little fishing time we actually achieved - I got at least one of each bar the mackerel, David got a coalie and a couple of dabs. Johnathon got a mack and a couple of pollack.

Lee, sorry to hear about the engine trouble, if you want to borrow a remote rigged Merc Longshaft 20 for the rest of the season while you sort your own out, I have one in the shed if you like. Keep meaning to pick up a hull somewhere as a project and put it on that but haven't had time this year so far.
Fluff chucking is the new black..... Rampant Wreckfish is a fly angler in denial :D

that's mighty kind of you Pete. Might talk to you about that. Going to give it a lash fixing it first...suspect it might just be the nozzle being blocked? I have the service manual, so hopefully I'll be able to figure it out..... :?
