i having a real problem collecting my own bait,i have tried on several occaisons for peeler and lug with no succsess.the takle shops are always out of bait this time of year.at the moment im using maceral heads as bait.i managed to catch a good sized bass last year using these.although this year after two attempts have only attracted the crabs.i think that with this bait i am limiting my chances of catching the smaller fish.would the gulp baits worth a try.

the backstrand in tramore, a garden fork and some elbow grease should see u fine for lug. creaden beach near woodstown will get u lug, just look for the casts in the sand down the right end of the beach. theres plenty of rag in the mussel beds there as well. just make sure u get there for low tide. the saleens is good for peeler, again at low tide, just check under the weed. hope thats some help

thanks for the advice,tried the saleens at low water on sunday last,all i found was dead hardbacks.also tied for lug on the island that appears at low water there,thousands of those sand casts all over it,dug loads of holes about a foot deep and got nothing,i will try again at the backstrand,should i be digging deeper.

aye you need to be digging at least 18" there.. the best place is the far side of the backstrand.. you'll get them at 8-10" deep.. just keep an eye on the tide though and where you walk its easy to get stuck in the soft mud :shock:
