Depends on where u are fishing for them.

On most beaches Small blow lug tipped with maddies and maybe a sliver of mackerel works. Either on their own works also.

Up North I think that rag tipped off with mackerel is a top bait off the beaches.

In estuary regions peeler crab rules.

Hi

Excellent advice there, the only thing to add is that dabs love five day old as in very "off" lugworm. Messy but very effective...

Plaice feed on mussels as young fish and always retain a liking for this bait.

Flounder can be remarkably picky and it depends on what they are eating locally. Certain estuaries in Wexford, if you do not have peeler crab you can forget it. Around here if you do not have fresh lugworm, forget it...

Turbot are predators so only fish baits will work, small strips of belly mackerel on a long flowing trace hammered to the sea bed will work.

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

You'll get the odd small dab there on North beach on small hooks with rotten lug worm wraps,(stickies). Not sure about any other marks there cept around the archway on the Northbeach.

tiny strips of squid on size 2 or 4 hooks great for dabs flounder and plaice just hook em once and they wiggle about in the tide like little sand eels (took an 8 lb bass on them to  )
