Tide:1st session rising others on the ebb

Weather: not great; rain, strong wind and a bit of sunshine

Bait:fresh lug, white rag, mackerel and lures

Rigs:single hook

Results:ballan and corkwing wrasse, mackerel, pollock, dogfish and huss

Catch and Release:: Yes/No kept one mackerel

Report: Quite a dissapointing trip. Looking at the map there seemed plenty of possable marks but access to the coast was a big issue when we arrived due to landowners restricing it. As a result most of the time was spent searching for a location which was frustrating.

Finally met a friendly landowner who had no problem letting me through his land. This rock mark produced about 3 pollock and one giant mackerel to lures, two smallish ballans and a corkwing to lug/rag along with a doggie and two huss to fresh mackerel. This was on the first day while fishing the rising tide in the evening for about 3hrs. Next day the same mark produced just one but good sized wrasse of about 3.5lbs while fishing on the ebb during the afternoon.

Spent a while lure fishing over shallowish ground concentratring on the rocky areas in the hope of a bass but with no joy. The surf beaches around Barley Cove area look as though they should hold quite a few bass and I'd say the area in general has quite a bit of potential but a good bit of time would be needed to suss out any deeper rock marks. Spent way more time travelling than fishing but also added two firsts with the corkwing and huss so it was an ok trip in the end.

Hi Col
If you are down there for a while you might try the Light house on the headland near Crookhaven (I think it is called Rock Island)you can park right near the light house (Carefully) and fish the front of the rocks .Huss, Ray and such.
