HELP.

last nite for the dusk fished the edge of a tide race/gravel bank, there was a good number of big bass hitting the sprats ( herring 1 or 2 in. long)
fish up to 10/12lb. were almost beaching themselfs around me.
watched as they herded the fry along the gravel spit then up against the tide race before chargeing them. could have grabbed some of the bass they were that preoccuepied.
this went on for well over an hour.
could i catch 1 NO, not 1 take on every lure i had and every trick/method i know.
tryed some of the fry dangled under the rod tip, dead drifted, ect.
only thing i can put it down to is that they were just charging the fry with there mouths open... like whales. not bothering with single fish.
.............anyone any ideas?????
i will be back there to nite, goin to try and record it on phone, this is every bass anglers dream some of what i saw was breathtakeing/stunning

Very interesting place you have there! Lucky you! Can I expect to see it some day! Was Bruce with you and has he caught a bass yet?!!

Try a ball of herring fry on a small treble a bit like a ball of worms when salmon fishing, tumbling it along on a free line - not that sporting but a small knot of fry might be sufficiently big and cohesive as a target to attract a hit... in fact you would not necessarily have to use a treble, just whip a load of the fry onto the hook and use light shirring elastic to hold them in place...

In the saleens in Tramore I have found that a small white delta, fishing on flouro 2 - 3 metres behind a small bubble float often beats other lures. You could add a splosh of silver metallic paint to it if you thought it might help...

I had the same problem with Mullet once.....never want to fish for them again little buggers

Hi Kieran, We've been desperately unlucky with the weather- strong winds and masses of floating weed everywhere clogging lures and baits.
You and I will have to come back next month when hopefully the weather will be more settled. Still, Arthur now has a mass of new lures to try out and hopefully will be able to give us a full report on them when we come down.
