Small boat question

#1 Post by dillon_the_rabbit »

Morning people

I have a small inflateable boat complete with a 2.5hp engine, and would like to know if the sort of boat would be suitable for some inshore fishing, say around Howth head. I went out on Saturday in it, but had to turn back soon after starting out due to engine trouble.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Nice one Howie!
At least Dillon you did head home before getting into difficulty!
Your boat is as good as the conditions allow (same for any sized craft). The crafty skipper is the one who weighs up the conditions and decides what his boat is capable of and heads home before it gets too snotty.
In fairness, your little craft will not give you much options in all but the calmest of weather but you will get great craic out of it when the weather’s good.

There is nothing like being the master of your own destiny and being out on your own craft. You will find that the best anglers in the country are small boat people, able to do it all, not just haul fish quickly! Drive on and enjoy with safety in mind!

Morning

Thanks for the advice guys, I finally managed to get out in the boat on Saturday for a few hours fishing around the islands just off Dalkey. The weather was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The buzz I got from it was like driving for the first time, you realise you are no longer confined to certain areas, and can go to new places.

I am happy to say the engine performed very well, as did my little boat, and I caught some fish to boot :D

Again thx for the advice, the RNLI website has given me a few tips that will be worth remembering.

Cheers

Matt. I'am pleased the R.N.L.I link helped.
try to visit your local station when open and tell them what your craft is and what area they would think suitable for you to operate in.I'am sure they will give you sound "local" advice,if possible take your boat along and get it checked. eh you never know you might join.

Take Care.
