People:Myself

Duration: hour and a half

Tide: up to high tide at 17.30ish

Weather: drizzle, gentle westerly breeze, gentle swell

Bait: Green Crabs

Rigs: Medium sized lead head hooks, light rod

Result 3 wrasse to 5lb

Catch and Release:: Yes/No

First attempt at fishing wrasse with hardback crabs.
Got a decent wrasse early on, after that I was being beaten hands down by the gunner. I got bites every cast but they kept robbing the crabs. Tried any number of striking techniques, managed to foul hook one unfortunate small wrasse (a first). Then I was down to my last crab, the daddy of my bait, a big green crab. I thought I wouldn't even get him on the hook. He was just about on, I dangled him down. When he was just out of sight the rod bent over with line feeding out. After a few more lunges I managed to successfully land this PB weighing in at 5lb plus on my little scales (since checked for accuracy).

That's a great wrasse, well done Blackie.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing rods.

that is a great wrasse

with all those bites you were getting maybe check out adams stinger rig like a pennell - with a treble in amongst the legs - seemed to improve his strike rate no end

just a suggestion - get that 5lb brother!

Cheers lads,
was v pleased with this fish.
I was thinking that the biggies were confined to Co. Kerry, then to get my first specimen fish at my home venue.... Result!
Thanks in no small way to this website BTW
