slipway salthill 1/8/07

People:me and half of the people who have never been fishing in their life before  (the other half will probably be out tomorrow)

Duration: 4-10pm

Tide:high at 19:40

Weather:slight notherly wind, plenty of sun

Bait: sprat

Rigs:float

Results:enough mackerel to feed a small colony and a nice mullet

Catch and Release:: Yes/No: mullet went free, shook a few mack of a barbless hook to survive for anotherday

Report:
went out with the intention to catch a few mack then start some serious fishing, but as the day progressed it was hampered by makky bashers
:? :?
so in the end i put a small float on and started using sprat as bait in the hope of a possible garfish or pollock and maybe a seatrout

as the mackerel were chasing sprat right up the slipway i saw a few nice sized mullet sweeping up the injured sprat.. quick change of hook size and loaded a small sprat.. the joy of lifting the poor sprat every time a shoal of mackerel appeared.. this really confused the onlookers
and after catching another few mackerel i finally hooked into a nice 4lbs+ mullet.. all i could hear around me was "hey, this fella has caught a shark", "Look it's a pike" and "hey boss, i'll take da off ya"...
so what was just another bait collecting session turned out to be a nice mullet session..
it was extremely funny to see every one try to catch mullet with toby's and feathers after i released the fish

"hey boss, i'll take da off ya"...

sounds all too familiar.

also the amount of people who were taking macks off the hooks and then chucking them back......sad sight to see. :(
