Wicklow Rock mark

#1 Post by Eoghan »

People : Me, Bro in law, nephew
Time 11am to 2 pm (Hungover, couldnt get up earlier)
Bait : Crab, Lug, Rag, Sandeel
Result : 2 bass, 1 pollock, 2 dogs and a small hound. (And bad sunburn)

Visited my usual Wicklow mark yesterday. Didnt disappoint. Water was cloudy and had no takes on any lures. Moved to a single hook setup and a large crab placed onto a sandy patch in between rocks. Missed a fish on my first cast and think it was a pollock as it was a tentative take. Third cast was more definite and has a bass of about 2Ib.
My brother in law in the meantime had two dogs out further and a small smooth hound, both to sandeel. I had another bass about 15 mins later and then just before we left I had a small pollock.

Its about the 8th time to fish it this year and I have only blanked once at it for bass, bass arent very big this year so far. Had a few 5Ib bass off it last year. Early days. Will try to post more but dont get time in work.

Kerry in September is looming.......im drooling already.

Nice one Eoghan. Do you use a running ledger and grip leads when fishing the crab like that? I am heading to waterford in a couple of weeks for a weekends fishing and I think I will be bringing a few peelers incase the plugging is slow.

No I used a 3oz bomb weight with the hook about 2 foot up from that on a small snood. Figured it would keep the hook up from the snags. Still lost once trace.

Well worth having bait a a back up. I never usually use bait and prefer to plug but with cloudy water like that it was pointless.
