Which one is it Yorks? 4.2 is merely a statement of the length AFAIK. I have had a couple of Grauvells but they were totally different to each other, both 4200s

hi there, it's the tekron 4.2, i've spent hours looking on angling shop sites but nothing. even their own site is useless. i'm looking for a rod which will cast well with a mag 535 for someone of average casting ability. i thought the longer lightweight rods looked the part but i'm unsure about how they will cope with rough ground.just taken up fishing again after many years without so excuse my ignorance . thanks.

yeah well i have the TEKTRON 4500 and to be honest the tektron is more suited for a fixed spool reel !! i find it great for diatance but i dont think it would suit a multiplier !! i use mine in all types of mixed ground ! its lasted so far anyway !! hope this helps

Hi,

I would doubt that any of the European style long rods are what your looking for...."Kelp, Rocks and Penn 535 multiplier" wouldn't suit a 4.2m rod that would more than likely have been designed for fixed spool use. The Grauvells are not what I would class as "rough ground" rods.

You say your just getting back into fishing again...you have more choice now on price and quality for the type of rod you need than ever before, is shouldn't be hard to get fixed up.

IMO the first thing anyone looking for a rod needs to take into account is "budget" and then what it going to be used for.

the DH model would be the best one to go for very expensive though  i tested one before they came out and found them very good even with a abu 6500 on it low reel very nice rod but the price is a big factor with these rods :!:

I have a Tektron 4200 with standard tip and match tip, its absolutely one of, if not my favourite rod. However, definitely not suited to use with a 535.... I use it only with a FS, (this is what its rung for.) Standard tip is great for wellying a bait out and has bags of backbone, however, I wouldnt class it as being a rough ground rod or even close to it TBH. Beaut of a rod though for general fishing and great teamed with the match tip for flatties and the like. They have stopped making these so if there is a dealer that has some, can you post a link as I wouldnt mind a second one TBH.

hello, re the grauvell rods. i found a place that was an agent for grauvell but has stopped selling them due to contactual factors. he has few rods left. the rods are the 4.2 tc surf and the 4.5 tc surf. i think he has four in all. he's selling them all at £150 each. hope this helps, if interested i'll look up the address etc. pat

I have a Tektron. It's my favourite rod. If you can still buy one, do it. You won't be sorry.

yeah i like it a lot too, for cleanish conditions.
I never got the match tip do you think its worth it, I was always happy with the standard tip, never really used it for flatties though, Anybody any opinions on the match tip?

I never felt the need to get a match tip. I think the bite detection on the Tektron standard tip is fine. Petekd has the match tip. I'll leave it to him to say if it was worth it.

Standard tip is fine for most things but when it comes to watching for tiny flattie nibbles in the suds and the like, the match tip transforms this rod into a totally different piece of kit. I think I paid 50 quid for the match tip for mine, if you cant source a Tektron tip, I believe the match tip for the HM will fit also. For all the price of it, its well worth the money and I think that for the sake of 50 notes, you get basically another rod, I would see no reason why you shouldnt. Highly recommend it, especially for the lighter end of things.

Had a couple of casts last night with the Grauvell DH 4500 and a mag elite - also had a few casting pointers (amazing what you are doing wrong but will never know until someone tells you)

An absolute dream of a rod to cast with - all the literature syas best used with a fixed spool but I will beg to differ on that - easily outcast my previous best distance - only difference was I had a 6oz lead on instead of a 4oz.

Would love to get one but they are savage expensive £400 GBP !!!

Gonna have to start saving the pennies I reckon

Either that or sell the Greys rod ???......nah!
