Day 3

rock marks

Results: 30+ wrasse to over speci size

Day three was much the same as day two with us visiting a couple of different marks in out search for big wrasse.

Today was eoins day though and he had 4 lovely wrasse and many others in the better conditions.

as the wind wasnt quite so bad we grabbed a quick evening session at a mark near slea head and managed a few more good wrasse

Day 4

Day four was a bit of a change, eoin had to head home by 6pm so we took it easy and chilled out in the morning and then had some lunch before stopping off at the owenmore river on the way to our bass mark so my da could get some trout fishing in.

he fly fished the mouth of the river and had four sea trout to a pound and then headed up river and had loads of little brownies while eoin and i packed up his car and broke down some of the gear.

after eoin hit the road my dad and i headed off to our bass mark (had some good fsih here in previous years) for a high tide (11.30pm) that coincided nicely with nightfall. we dont bass fish very much at all, i find it so similar to the pike, trout and salmon fihsing that i have done (pike all oct - april) so when down in kerry we like to do some different things, but now and then its nice to hit into a few bass.

we decided only to lure fish and waded out in the surf to fish plugs , poppers and todys out past the breakers.

it was getting really dark by 11pm on a loevely evening sunset and we could barely see each other, fishing about 100 yards apart, so we kept in touch by walkie talkie.

i was fihsing away at 11.15 when i got a garbeled message on my walkie from my dad, i asked him to say again and the second message came through clear "bass on". i legged it with the het and arrived just as the fight was ending, out went the net, and in came a bass that really strained the net to the limits. he had done it again on a toby with a cracking bass for the 3rd year in a row. weighed and returned it went 9lbs 1oz. i had to congratulate him, he has the knack.

after that we were pretty much ready to hit the road but i decided on a few more chucks and on my fifth cast just as the toby hit the waterm wham!! a good hit and i lent into him. three minutes later after a couple of sizzling runs another nice bass on a toby was in the net, this one 7lbs 1oz and a great way to round off our trip

.. happy we headed back to our accomodation, and then home in the morning stopping just to pick up some fresh macks to bring home.

cant wait to get back..

Superb reports there Adam, some brilliant fish, shame the conditions were so tough.
