SAISAC Meet, Rosslare Point, Wexford, 07/07/07

#1 Post by teacher »

People: teacher, jd, jw, seaniebo, kracken, croppyboy, Mr_Green

Duration: 7pm till 1:30am (Dave and Fintan were still there when I left)

Tide: In about midnight

Weather: Westerly breeze, dry, overcast

Bait: Peelers/Softies, Squid, Rag, Lug, Razor

Rigs: Pulleys, 1 up 1 down, 1 up, etc.

Results: Me: 3 starry smoothies around the 5lb mark, 2 pup tope, 4 LSDs. Everyone else can post their own stats, but I'd say we got 20+ Smoothies around 4-6 lbs.

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: We met up in Rosslare and because there were only 7 of us we decided to fish the Point instead of the cannons. The dunes gave us some shelter from the westerly breeze and the rain stayed away so we were lucky with the conditions.

The smoothies seemed to be coming in from all distances. As far as I know they were all caught on crab baits, apart from one decent one I had on razor. Interestingly, they were all male and almost all of the Starry variety. They were coming in packs so we had bursts of activity with three or four people into good fish at a time, followed by a bit of a lull. I lost what seemed like a bigger fish just before I left, but then the ones that get away are always bigger.

There was a nice mix of other species (including a couple of Bass) to keep things interesting. The smoothies were good fun and everyone caught. Maybe this will become an annual club event ...

Great nights fishin lads. Good to see you all again. Think I had four smoothies all around 5lb plus, dropped a bigger one when the snood line broke lifting it out! Like teacher says its always the one that gets away! Had another two dropped due to bad bait presentation! A couple of bass and about ten dogs kept things ticking over when the smoothies were quiet.

Left around eleven due to hunger but think jd and jw were duking it out to be king of the smoothies at that time.
I require a tremendous amount of calcium

Enjoyed that! Would have stayed longer except I had the boat trip the next day.

I had 4 or 5 smoothies - biggest about 6lb, and a pup tope and a doggie. Thank to jonathan for grabbing the first one when it ended up 20 yards down from me in the groyne.
